Other than the flexibility online learning provides, attending most online courses is not very different from a traditional classroom experience. Online courses are identical to their on-campus counterparts in terms of prerequisites, course content, assignments and grading. College of Engineering faculty teach their courses to an on-campus audience at the same time our technical support team captures the class meeting for online students. That same day, the lecture will be digitized and available to online students through the course website, along with the professor’s own notes on the lecture material. All class meetings and notes posted online will remain available to enrolled students throughout the term.
While online students can choose when to view lectures and review notes, courses follow the semester or summer session schedule, and online students must keep up with the pace of the course. Just as in on-campus courses, homework is assigned periodically, and online students must submit their assignments electronically by the assigned due date. Exams must be proctored. Proctors administer the examination and ensure students adhere to all testing policies. All Engineering Online students are required to select their own proctor according to our guidelines and submit their choice to Engineering Online staff for approval.
Faculty SupportWhile online study requires a great deal of self-discipline, you are not expected to go it alone. As an Engineering Online student, you are encouraged to develop a rapport with the College of Engineer’s dedicated faculty. Your professors are there to support you with any questions that arise as you progress through each course.

Computer Specifications
NCSU has recommended minimum specifications for computers that are generally used for courses. Those specifications can be found here: http://oit.ncsu.edu/computer-specs
It is highly recommended that you have a digital scanner with a resolution of at least 300 dpi to scan homework assignments done on paper and submit them to your instructor. All assignments must be submitted electronically.
All online students must have access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection. A quick way to test your system is to view one of the demo classes. If you are able to smoothly stream the demo lectures, your computer meets the minimum requirements to access our online courses.
