*types of computer network:
1.based on transmission technology
2.beoadcast network
3.based on geographical span
4. based on relationship
5.based on network topology
1.types of computer network based on transmission technology:-
* point to point
* multipoint
(these are also a types of computer network based on connection)2. types of computer network based on boardcast network:-
* one to many boardcast network
3.types of computer network based on geographical span:-
* Local Area Network (LAN)
* Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
* Wide Area Network (WAN)
4.types of computer network based on relationship:-
*Peer-to-Peer Networks
* Client/Server Networks
* Hybrid Networks
5. .types of computer network based on network topology:-
* Topology:-
way in which end points or stations of a network are linked together. : geometric representation of relationship of all links and linking devices
\(nodes) to each other.
*Network Topology:-
Description of physical/logical connections of computers in a network indicating which pairs of computers are able to communicate and through which
way is called network topology.
* Network Topology or LAN Topology:
1. Bus
2. Ring
3. Star
4. Extended Star
5.Tree
6. Mesh
7. Hybrid
1. bus topology:-
* Advantages:
1. Easy to understand, install and use for small networks
2. Cabling cost is less
3.Easy to expand
4.Failure of node does not affect network
*Disadvantages:
1. If channel fails, entire network fails
2. Heavy network slows down network as only one computer can transmit data at a time.
2. ring topology
* Advantages:
1. No computer can monopolies network because every computer is given equal access in network
2.Easy to install and reconfigure
*Disadvantages:
1. Failure of computer in ring affect whole network
2.Communication delay is directly proportional to number of nodes in network
3.star topology
* Advantages:
1. Minimal line cost, n nodes require (n-1) lines
2. Failure of any node does not affect remaining portion of network
3.If any of node is added in network, it does not affect communication delay
* Disadvantages:
1.If central node fails, whole network fails
2. Distributed processing capability is limited
4.tree topology
*Advantages:
More computers and devices can be attached to single hub and therefore increase distance of signal can travel between devices/computers
*Disadvantages:
1. Cabling cost is more
2.If central hub fails, system break down
3.If levels increases, it may lead to complex networks
5.mesh topology
*Advantages:
1.Fast Communication
2. Distributed Control
3.Fault can be diagnosed easily
5.Reliable as failure of node does not affect other nodes
6.Security and Privacy as there is direct link between nodes
*Disadvantages:
1.Cabling cost is more. In n nodes network, each node requires (n-1) links resulting in total of n(n-1)/2
2.Installation is difficult
3.Addition of new node in network raises cost multiple times depending on total existing nodes in network
6.hybrid topology
it is mixture of two or more topology
